Your First Week with a Wearable Breast Pump

A wearable pump is a small freedom: both hands back, no cord, no sitting still. The first few sessions take a bit of practice. This is what we tell friends in their first week.

Your First Week with a Wearable Breast Pump

Start with the fit

Wearable pumps still have a flange tunnel, and size matters just as much. Our wearable pump comes with 15, 17, 19 and 21mm inserts; measure first and start with the insert a couple of millimetres wider than your nipple.

Seat it in a snug bra

Wearables need a nursing or pumping bra that holds them firmly against the breast. Centre the nipple in the tunnel before you switch on — a pump that sits off-centre loses suction and may rub.

Massage first, then express

Begin in massage mode on a low level to trigger let-down, then switch to expression mode when milk starts to flow. Raise the level only until it feels strong but comfortable. Higher is not better if it hurts.

Watch the cup, not the clock

Early on, pump until flow slows, rather than for a fixed time. Tip the pump forward slightly when you remove it so the milk does not spill back.

Clean after every session

Take the milk path apart, rinse in cool water, then wash in warm soapy water or a bottle washer. Let parts dry fully before reassembling. The motor unit itself never goes in water.
